The site have been updated for a new modern look. Well sort off. Go over to check it out.

There have been loads of changes to whirligig as well but I can’yt be bothered to list them all properly so I’m just going to cut and past the revision file.

added an Over Under option on the dome type for Barrel. This appears to be a popular stereo option for this form of projection.
Updated Barrel Sphere so that there is less pinching.

Update that hopefully should fix the not playing after pause in the PC version.

The rotate changes the width of the 16:9 or curved output.
Page up and Page down skip forward and backward 1 minute.
A couple of other fixes.

unity 4.5. (this changed the way the menu position is so that also needed updating.)
Rewrote the fire buttons on play pause and quit.

Made more changes to increase speed on different systems.
system change to make the number changing consistent on different spec machines.
Fix a crash when no videos.
Screensaver. Turn off display after about 5 minutes if the Oculus hasn’t moved.

Displays pngs and jpgs npw
“l” will turn on loop for videos.
Remembers settings for each video,jpg,png.
Mac version.
Optimised code.

Separate the progress bar into to layers, progress bar and progress bar border.
Progress bar appears when skipping forward and backward during playback.

bug fixes.
Added the option of a progress bar.
You can add films to the video folder and they will appear in the list without restarting.
Settings are saved whenever changes are made not just on quite.
Updated AVPro to latest version.

Full screen f11 vague fix that doesn’t leave the video on a white frame.
The all button access now programmable.
progressive increment on button input so holding down increases the speed of increase. Example rotate, scale, tilt.
f11 toggles fullscreen.
Bug fix of left arrow loading file.

End video detection changed for more stability.

Stereo Fixed.

Version 1.0
First version of the Mac version of Whirligig. There will be error but I don’t know what they are yet.

The player has been mentioned on the vrfocus site. It’s good to see over places noticing its arrival.

In other news work has started on the Mac version of Whirligig. The Mac version is already available in it’s early beta form on www.centzon.co.uk/whirligig/downloads so head on over to take a look. There are still heavy issues with it but it does work.

Ok so I’ve made a load of updates since yesterday on the players.

The Player

  • First off I’ve intergreated the new SDK into the build which offers improved quality and some other stuff I’ve sure they were really pleased about.
  • I’ve created a build for 64 bit. I’m note sure of the advantage of this but I think it is good to know the process of doing it.
  • I’ve disabled Directx 11. I noticed large cpu useage and after fiddling around a bit found that the dx11 was causing it. By removing it it has dramaticly improved the cpu overhead and made the latency a lot less.
  • I’ve built and uploaded Vortex onto the site with the new player.

The Website

  • The whirligig page has been improved including a download page rather than a direct downlaod on the main page. This mean I can offer several download options for people to choose from and also put a link to download Vortex.

Go to the Whirligig page for the latest updates and a link to vortex.

Enjoy and spread the word.

The Web site centzon.co.uk/whirligig is now up and running and instructions and introductions videos are uploaded to YouTube and areso  ready to view. so head on over to the site to start checking it out. Feedback is needed on both the player and the site ( the site is pretty rough but hopefully not to confusing and gets you where you need to go). the next changes will hopefully be from requests from users.

I haven’t updated centzon in a long time but I found an error in the sound cloud plug in. They changed there code so I had to change mine it now works again.

On another note I’ve added a way to add text to a page. If you add the word show- to a info part of your button it will display the text behind the button. If you have a sew through button then it gives you a resized able text box you can move around. It will be put into a us. with the birth of whirligig

http:\\www.centzon.co.uk\phileday\rift-dome-player\release\fish production v1.zip

This is a dome player that plays back fisheye films in both mono and stereo side by side. However it is not intended to be a simple player any any film you pick up but a way you can send out your films to others pre setup.
The zip contains 4 folders.

Blank player
An empty player with simple menu an example film and movie file.
This is an example of a film setup to be sent out to others with a bespoke menu made by the artist and film ready to watch in full fulldome 3D and 5.1 sound. To watch the film simple run Vortex from with the folder and your away. Keys for the menu are arrow up, down, left, right and enter to play and pause.
This contains open source video converts to get your films into a format that can be played back by the player. Simply drag and drop your audio and video onto the correct bat files and select from the menu.
Full instructions
The files you need to have to player the film is video.ogv (with audio), audio.ogg (if you want a separate audio file or your video has no audio) player.ini(an editable text file to setup your player default settings, a more indeth explaination will come later) and menu.png(the menu you want people to see when they load up the player, have a look at the example ones for an idea of how it works).
Better instructions will come later.

OK. So I was going to release it over the weekend but an issue with sync and play back meant I needed to do more work on it. It is however very close now and much closer to what I wanted with a better navigation system and sound playback.
